About Giorgia
Personally
Giorgia Botta was born and raised in Rome, Italy until the age of 25.
In March 2014 Giorgia graduated with a Masters in International Relations at the LUISS University of Rome and – about a year later – decided to move to New York City to become a professional bridge player and teacher.
Giorgia has been playing bridge since the age of 12. She started playing thanks to her parents, both passionate players. Fortunately, Rome is a prestigious bridge city – with some of the best players in the country and some of the best in the World – making it easier for young passionate players to learn from the best.
Giorgia joined the Italian Junior program when she was 14, made her first U21 team appearance when she was 16 and went on to represent Italy in the Girls National Team for the next 8 years.
During those years Giorgia made exceptional friendships, visited an incredible number of countries and opened her mind to as many new and different cultures as she could.
All of those experiences, together with the relevant bridge related results, led Giorgia to the decision of leaving Italy and moving to New York with the hope of finding America in the bridge world.
Professionally
During her “Junior Career” Giorgia has achieved several notable results including a World Junior Women Pairs Championship gold medal in Atlanta 2013, two bronze World Girls Team Championships medals in Taicang – China – 2011 and Istanbul – Turkey – 2014 and a European Girls Team Championship in Wroclaw – Poland – 2013.
Giorgia also participated for many years in Italian Junior Championships winning several Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and, in 2014, won the Italian Mixed Teams Championship playing for the Lavazza team, partnering with Norberto Bocchi.
In February 2015 Giorgia moved to NYC where she has thus far established herself as a regular professional player and teacher and quickly grew great relationships with many players and clubs.
Since moving to the United States, Giorgia has participated in numerous competitions - Nationals and Trials - achieving remarkable results.
Among the most prestigious a Bronze medal in the 2023 European Open Mixed Team Championship and representing the United States Women’s Teams at the 2023 World Championships in Marrakesh, Marocco. Other notable results:
2nd place in the Mitchell Open BAM, a 2nd place in the Freeman Mixed BAM and a 2nd place in the Mixed Team Trials.
Giorgia partners regularly with bridge superstar Zach Grossack in international mixed competitions.
